June is Adopt-a-cat month and to celebrate The Haven is holding several off-site pet adoptions and a special adoption promotion for the furry felines.

The local no-kill non-profit understands what it takes to end pet homelessness in Baldwin County and has been in the business for over 16 years saving well over 6,230 homeless pets. The agency partners with area traditional animal control shelters by transferring healthy and treatable cats, kittens, dogs and puppies to The Haven so they can be prepared for a new loving home. By focusing their resources on these animals, adoption…

rates increase and euthanasia rates decrease.

After the animal has been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and tested for common illnesses, the non-profit volunteers and small staff prepare for and hold mobile, off-site pet adoptions at area businesses in the community. Their Mobile Adoption Rescue Unit aka MARU has been instrumental in increasing their adoption rate and also serves as a tool to help in the agencies disaster plan. Below is a list of the recurring adoption events:

• 1st Saturday each month: Petco, Daphne located in Jubilee Square of Hwy 90

• 2nd Saturday each month: Petsmart, Spanish Fort in Eastern Shore Shopping Plaza

• 3rd Saturday each month: Pet Supermarket, Daphne located next to Public of Hwy 98

Check the agencies website for times, locations, and for cancellations as events can be cancelled due to the weather.

“Volunteers make the difference and without them these forgotten animals have the opportunity to find love once again,” stated Michael Graham, executive director for The Haven. “Local businesses, community leaders and individual’s donors who invest in our cause make our life-programs possible and for that we are grateful,” Graham added.

All pets adopted from The Haven have been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and come with 30 days of free pet health insurance. In addition, dogs are tested for heartworms (treated if positive) and cats are tested for feline AIDS and feline leukemia. Adopters will receive all medical paperwork including tags and certificates, a free bag of Hill’s pet food, and a pet training DVD. The fee for adoptable dogs is $90 and for cats is $65. During June, the adoption fee for all cats age 6 months and older will be waived. For more information please visit www.havenforanimals.org or call us at 251-929-3980.
