In the heart of our compassionate community, The Haven No-Kill Animal Shelter has launched a unique and heartwarming initiative, the Rent- 
a-Rover program. Imagine a lunch break, a sunny day, and a wagging tail by your side—this is the experience we’re bringing to you. The Rent-a-Rover program allows our community to check out an adoptable shelter dog on their lunch break, for the day, a weekend, or even a whole week. It’s about more than just a quick getaway; it’s about fostering a connection, building memories, and sharing joy.
The program operates on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from 10 am to 4 pm, offering a brief respite from the routine. We close briefly from 12 pm to 1 pm to ensure the well-being of our furry friends. During these hours, you can choose to take one of our shelter dogs on an unforgettable adventure.
For a lunch break, picture your loyal companion, patiently sitting by your side as you enjoy a sandwich in the park. Feel the stress of the workday melt away as you exchange smiles and enjoy the simplicity of being in the company of a four-legged friend.
For a day, spend your hours exploring hiking trails, having picnics, or simply cuddling on the couch. The Rent-a-Rover program offers you the chance to experience the love and loyalty of a shelter dog for a memorable 24 hours.

What Do I need to participate?
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- A government issued photo ID (i.e. valid drivers license, passport)
- Visit The Haven’s website and view the available dogs. You’ll need to jot down the name of the dog to include in the Rent-a-Rover form.
- Click here to complete the Rent-a-Rover form. A Haven team member will contact you after receiving the completed form to schedule a meet and greet. These meet and greets can be conducted at the shelter or remotely via Face time or Zoom. They last about 15-30 minutes. If you have a connection with the pet, and we are certain you will fall in love, then we’ll listen to you on how long you would like to foster the pet.
Guidelines
- Only one dog permitted per individual.
- Collar and leash is required to remain on the dog at all times.
- The individual must remain with the dog.
- Dog(s) are required to be returned at the agreed upon date and time.
Waiver
The Haven is not responsible for any injuries, loss, or property damage, including but not limited to, loss or damage to any person(s) or property such as a vehicle, pet related injuries, or any other object where you may be located. By volunteering to check out a dog, you are accepting any and all risks and liability associated with your interaction with the animal during the specified period of time.
