The Arts and Crafts Festival has been canceled, therefore we will not be holding our Red Carpet Runway pet adoption event this weekend. This decision was not made lightly; however, the safety of our staff, volunteers, and pets is our utmost concern (photo courtesy of ASPCA)

The Haven is also preparing for shortages on volunteers, staff, and donations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our lifesaving programs that provide critical care for the animals are already being affected. We need your help to continue saving the lives of homeless pets.

How can I help?

• Donate: With the pause on outreach programs and temporary closure of our Resale Shop, donations from events like the canceled Arts & Crafts festival pet adoption, and other weekly events where individuals and businesses would donate will not be received. We are asking you to please remember the animals as our services need to continue.

• Adopt: We have…

several adorable and friendly cats and dogs who are hoping to find some extra luck. Currently, we are offering adoptions at just $19.99 for dogs and cats age 6-months and older. And, remember we have adoptable cats at Petco Cat Adoption Center in Daphne. Check with Petco for hours of operation due to new safety guidelines.

• Foster: Now is the “purrfect” time for those who are healthy and staying at home to open your heart and home to an orphaned pet. Perhaps your home since your kids are out of school? Maybe you are home working remotely? If you are home for the next few weeks and are healthy, fostering provides many rewards. Email mgraham@havenforanimals.org if you are interested in fostering. The Haven offers all the necessary supplies.

• Share: Please share The Haven’s adoption promotion on your social media pages with your friends, family, and neighbors. Tag us #havenforanimals

Additionally, our objective is to minimize the impact COVID-19 has on our operations. Homeless pets still need our help, citizens still need help locating their lost pet, and shelter pets still need a safe place to be loved and cared for while our team continues to help them find responsible homes. Please give today to continue supporting our lifesaving work.

In keeping with recommendations by the CDC and the World Health Organization, we have implemented the following changes to our operations:

• Outreach Programs like mobile pet adoption events, school visits, and shelter tours of The Haven will pause until further notice. GREAT NEWS! We will continue to conduct adoptions of Haven pets at The Haven, located at 559 S. Section St, Fairhope, in place of holding off-site events. We will be open at the shelter on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until further notice.

• We have temporarily reduced our hours of operation. Our shelter will close at 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (The shelter is closed to the public on Wednesdays and Sundays) This is necessary to provide our team more time to clean, disinfect, and care for our animals.

• Volunteer Open House regular sessions will be paused until further notice.

• The Haven Resale Shop will be closed until further notice.

As a reminder, we ask our small staff, volunteers, and shelter guests, to stay home if they are ill, especially if experiencing flu-like symptoms. Please email volunteer@havenforanimals.org or call (251) 929-7402 if you are unable to report to your scheduled volunteer shift.

We want to thank Greer’s, City of Fairhope, and all of our volunteers, donors, and others in the community for their support.

We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and communicate with you any additional changes as things evolve. Please know that you make our lifesaving work possible.
