It’s a Kitten and Puppy Adopt-A-Palooza! Effective immediately and through out the month of May, puppies and kittens will be in the spotlight at The Haven no kill animal shelter located in Fairhope. Thanks to a grant from Best Friends Animal Society, the adoption fees for kittens and puppies under 5 months will be reduced by $40. “We are grateful to Best Friends and excited to continue working with Baldwin County animal shelters – Daphne Animal Shelter, Fairhope Shelter, and the Baldwin County Shelter.
Together we have been working towards increasing adoptions with promotions like this which remind the public of the wonderful loving purebred and mixed-breed pets that enter our area shelters everyday,” said The Haven’s Executive Director Mike Graham. “We also work closely with the municipal shelters by transferring their healthy and treatable pets into our life-saving programs.” He pointed out that shelters typically see an increase of puppies and kittens entering the shelters during this time of year. He says encouraging individuals to adopt and current pet owners to spay/neuter their pets has been shown to increase our community shelters’ save rates. Hoping to reduce euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals, The Haven is excited to be able to offer these reduced rates.
In addition, certified dog trainer, Frances Dauster, owner of P’s & Q’s Dog Training, dba Sunpaws, will offer a special incentive to those who adopt one of these puppies. The new dog owner will be able to attend one of her 5-week Puppy Kindergarten Classes for $95 and, after they complete the course, they will receive a $40 rebate. “Young puppies are knowledge sponges,” said Ms. Dauster. “The sooner you train your puppy, the faster you will get that canine companion you’ve been dreaming about. Teaching puppies while they are in their formative months will enable the new owner to begin a path of friendly leadership and training. Potty accidents, nipping and destructive chewing can be addressed immediately. We will cover these subjects, plus much more, in class!” Graham adds that Ms. Dauster’s generosity in reducing her fees will greatly help the new owner get a well-trained new member of their family.
