This past winter has been an especially difficult one, but now that spring is here, a feeling of renewal is in the air. People are cleaning out closets, drawers, and entire houses to get a fresh start. If you are one of the “renewers”, and your items have been gently used, consider donating to The Haven Resale Shop, located at 357 Morphy Avenue. They are now accepting items for their yearly Spring Yard Sale, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, from 8am to 1pm. To help those who must sort thru all the items prior to the yard sale, donors are asked to bring items that are seasonally appropriate, clean and in working, sellable condition.
The historic building which houses many of the gently used donated items like glassware and furniture has a unique charm that can only be found in Fairhope. The shop has been generating funds to help Baldwin County’s no-kill animal shelter since 2003. Thanks to the kindness of others, the shop has a collection of saleable items and there is something for everyone. The shop, which is open Tuesdays thru Fridays, 10am to 4pm, is accepting donations for this upcoming yard sale from now thru Wednesday, May 14.
“We are grateful to the community for their generosity of donations and for the time the volunteers donate to keep the shop open,” says Mike Graham, the Haven’s Executive Director. “Funds generated from this event provide support for our life-saving adoption and foster programs.”
The shop’s manager, Heather Delker, adds: “Of course, The Haven Resale Shop is open year round, but since our shop is in a small cottage, we like to have these big yard sales twice a year, in the spring and fall. It gives us a chance to accept and sell a greater volume of donated items, including larger furniture items. It is also a fun day with our Haven volunteers all pitching in to make as much money as we can for the life-saving work The Haven does.”
Because The Haven Resale Shop is small, they don’t accept clothing, large items such as refrigerators, nor electronics, such as TVs, computers and printers. However, Heather strongly suggests that if one is not sure, to call the shop at 929-1911. “We always appreciate donations of furniture,” said Heather. “Our customers love that they can find unique pieces at great prices here. ” The volunteers pride themselves on the quality of products they offer to the public, such as china, small appliances, dishes, linens, framed pictures, decorative items, to name a few.
