Dr. Teresa Bell (Tesi) Marshall DVM, 64, passed away peacefully on October 21. A beloved Fairhope veterinarian, she owned the Downtown Animal Clinic for many years, counting both her animal patients and their owners as friends.
Her deep compassion for animals led her to found the Haven, the first no-kill animal shelter in Baldwin County out of her clinic. She expanded the clinic to increase housing until the city granted space. Today, the Haven has placed over 10,000 homeless pets in loving homes.
Born March 11, 1955, to Sam and Philomena Marshall in Pensacola, FL, Tesi developed her love for animals when she was introduced to horses as a young girl. Initially participating in amateur events, she eventually traveled around the country competing as a professional hunter/jumper. Her love for horses ultimately inspired her to choose veterinary medicine as her career.
Tesi was one of those rare individuals blessed with a brain for both science and art. You could often find her roaming the shores of the Mobile Bay with her pack of rescued dogs, scavenging for driftwood treasures. With her artist’s eye and a doctor’s skilled hands, she would turn these washed up pieces into beautiful furniture and art which she loved to gift to her closest family and friends.
As anyone who met her quickly learned, her family, especially her 2 children, were always her first priority. She is survived by her daughter, Katy English; son, Mathew English; their father, Joe English; her brother, Mike Marshall and his wife Suzy, and three nephews.
Teresa Marshall lived more in her 64 years than most do in a lifetime. For those who knew and loved her, the brightness and humor that followed her wherever she went will be missed eternally. A celebration of Tesi’s life will take place at Hidden Lake Barn 19437 Co Rd 9, Silverhill, AL 36576 on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, from 4p-7p. A potluck and BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage) is welcomed for a sunset toast in Dr. Marshall’s memory.
Dr. Marshall was a leader in the local no-kill movement and was appreciative of the tireless efforts of fellow board members, volunteers, small staff, and Haven donors. Dr. Marshall was a monthly donor and believed in supporting a cause that has lead our community towards ending pet homelessness.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, you can help continue her legacy for the animals by making a lifesaving donation in her memory.
