The Haven, a local no-kill animal shelter, is joining forces with animal welfare agencies nationwide to offer a pet adoption promotion, “Back in Black”, during April.
Last year, The Haven helped over 600 homeless cats and dogs find loving homes. According to the agency’s Executive Director Mike Graham, about 20% of these animals are black. “These pets are often overlooked in shelters due to no fault of their own,” said Graham. “People looking for a pet are often overwhelmed by the selection and the darker the fur the higher the chance these ebony cuties will remain unadopted. We hope this promotion will turn that around.”
The Haven is excited about the “Back in Black” promotion and says that they will provide adopters with the same adoption package while waiving the entire adoption fee. The agency uses their adoption application to try and match the potential adopter with the right pet. “Adoption promotions like these are a great way to generate awareness without compromising your organization’s adoption procedure,” stated Graham.
