A cat with a “tipped” or “notched” ear has been spayed/neutered and helps control the local cat population. Please don’t relocate or trap them unless they’re sick or injured. They have an important job in your community.

Managing Feral Cats Humanely: The Haven’s “Fix’n Ferals” Program

At The Haven, we understand the importance of managing the feral cat population in a humane and effective way. That’s why we’ve developed our “Fix’n Ferals” program, designed to assist community members in caring for feral cats while helping control their numbers. Through this program, we aim to provide a safe and compassionate approach to caring for these cats and ensuring their well-being.

How the Program Works

Our “Fix’n Ferals” program provides community members with humane traps to safely capture feral cats. Once a cat is trapped, it can be transported to a designated veterinary clinic for a scheduled appointment. At the clinic, the cat will undergo a spay or neuter procedure performed by a licensed veterinarian. Additionally, each cat will receive an FVRCP vaccine and a one-year rabies vaccine to protect their health.

Understanding Ear Tipping

As part of our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, each cat will have one ear tipped while under anesthesia. This painless procedure serves as a universal sign that the cat has been spayed or neutered and vaccinated. By ear tipping, we can easily identify cats that are part of this program, ensuring they are not unnecessarily trapped again in the future.

Program Costs and Payment

The fee for this comprehensive service, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, and ear tipping, is $125. Payment in full is required when booking a reservation, and we accept cash, money orders, credit cards, or debit cards. Please note that a 3.5% convenience fee applies to credit and debit card transactions. This fee helps us provide these essential services to the community and support the ongoing welfare of feral cats.

Program Requirements and Responsibilities

To ensure the success and safety of the program, we have a few requirements:
– A $100 refundable cash deposit is required to borrow a humane trap from The Haven. This deposit will be refunded once the trap is returned within 24 hours post-surgery.
– The individual making the appointment is responsible for transporting the cat in the humane trap to and from the veterinary clinic.
– If an appointment is missed without cancelling at least three business days in advance, a no-show fee of $35 will be imposed for each missed appointment.
