The Fairhope Public Library Foundation presents Dog Fest 2018, a new event all about dogs that will take place on Saturday, October 27, from 9 until 2 at the Coastal Community College campus in Fairhope.

The event is free and family friendly. Included in the activities for the day are K9 demonstrations by local law enforcement as well as pet adoptions…

from The Haven and the Baldwin Humane Society. Food, music and kids’ art activities will be available, so the planning committee is hoping to see young trick or treaters top off their trip around downtown with their canine friends at Dog Fest.

The highlight of this premiere event are canine competitions in twelve categories, including Longest Tail, Shortest Tail, Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Ugliest, Friendliest, Best Dressed, Best Groomed, Best Trick, Best Costume, Fluffiest, and Owner/Pet Look Alike. The cost is $10 for each entry in each category and the winners will be featured in a 2019 calendar that will be available for holiday shopping.

A silent auction will feature an original painting by local artist GiGi Hackford of a puppy sleeping with his favorite books, children’s books, and an Erin Gregory print. A custom built dog house will also be raffled that day and Dog Fest tee shirts will be available for sale.

Dog Fest will benefit the Fairhope Library Foundation which was formed in 2008 to create an endowment and assist with funding of programs and equipment outside the library’s annual budget. Most recently, the Foundation funded Maker Space, a 3D printer and software that are available to adult and children at no cost.
