The Dr. Diane Camilleri Fund is named for the compassionate veterinarian who used her knowledge and skillset to help homeless pets have second chances. Dr. Camilleri’s unwavering devotion for the animals is celebrated for each ill and injured homeless pet saved in her honor.
The Dr. Diane Camilleri Fund seeks to raise funds for the lifesaving medical procedures that The Haven provides every day to treat abused, ill, and injured pets like Campbell. He entered our shelter in 2023 with a severely broken leg. An x-ray revealed a bad break that had never been treated causing extreme discomfort.
The Haven relies heavily on donations to be able to provide critical medical care treatments for homeless pets in our community. Donations provide the second chances homeless pets deserve.
Please make a tax-deductible donation today to the Dr. Diane Camilleri Fund to help animals who need you the most.
HER STORY
Dr. Camilleri was a bright and remarkable woman ahead of her time. A native of New York City, she obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating at the top of her class, as valedictorian. She was a veterinarian at an animal shelter in New York City, after which she became a Professor of Veterinary Technology at City University of New York, a position she held for many years.
Dr. Camilleri had a great love of animals and cherished their two cats, Penny and Shelly. Upon her retirement, she and her husband relocated from the NYC area to Florence, Alabama, and then to Foley in 2006, where they opened JHS Bookstore. About his wife’s thoughts of The Haven, Mr. Soderberg said, “She was impressed by The Haven’s progressive and effective programs and its “no kill” status”. As I wanted to do something significant to honor her memory, The Haven was the perfect place for that. I look forward to a long and continuing partnership with The Haven.”
In her honor, the Dr. Diane Camilleri Rescue Fund has been established by her husband, to assist The Haven with its mission of ending pet homelessness. Donations to the rescue fund may be made to The Haven, specifying the Dr. Diane Camilleri Rescue Fund, and also at the store anytime. An annual adoption event at JHS Bookstore will also be held, to benefit The Haven. Michael Graham, Executive Director of The Haven, stated, ‘We are grateful to Mr. Soderberg for the very generous donation to establish the rescue fund, which will carry on the wonderful legacy of his wife”.
JHS Bookstore is located at 14965A SR 59, Foley, Alabama, 2 ½ miles north of highway 98. It is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m to 5 p.m. The store carries a wonderful selection of books, records, collectibles and other interesting items.
